Message To My Peers

My fellow peers…

I will hold off on telling you what you are doing wrong, I will instead begin with a light-hearted explanation of what this world could look like.

What If…

We lived together in harmony, that neighbors shared love for their fellow neighbors, that when we met a stranger we approached them as an intriguing new person we have not gotten the chance to speak with. That we woke up each day knowing that our very natural and best-suited work lay ahead of us. That we went to do the human work that we were meant to do and that which we enjoy immensely. We have all that we needed to stay alive in a healthy manner and that we had no need for more than what was is crucial for sustaining life. That we made time to rest during our waking hours where our bodies relaxed and our minds were allowed to be free of thinking.

Imagine where all humans held the common belief that human life should be respected, that there was no hierarchy. That there was no system for comparison, no way to justify that someone was better than another or another person any lesser. Imagine being able to communicate your truths without having to accommodate the implications that would result in another person. That there was no need for withholding information or biting your lip to keep from saying what your truth.

Imagine a world without money, that we went about our day of being human because we all wanted to be the best that we can be. That we had no need for a motivator outside of ourselves to do the best work that we are capable of. That our work was in pursuit of our personal best, not the money which we can exchange for our wants. How about a job that you would go and do without the benefit of money but instead because it was the work that you liked to do and it was how you wanted to spend your time.

How about a society of people that were accepting of your insecurities to the extent that you felt welcomed to share them with others. That insecurity was normal, there was no reason to feel any lesser. That you might realize that there is no part of yourself that is not allowed to be shared. That the rules of societal assimilation were loose and allowed for all to join with ease. There was no part of yourself that you had to hide, not acknowledge, or worry over.

Imagine communicating among people to be encouraging, helpful, and meaningful. That the purpose of speaking with another person was to uplift and empower them to their best selves. That kind words were all that we had to offer other people, the concept of putting others down would be as disgusting as taking a life. How about people that were self-governing, that there was no need for others to say what can and cannot be done. Instead, people would be guided by a well-shaped moral compass that led them only to actions that were beneficial to other people and themselves. Where there was no need for rules or signs but instead a common sense that has been well taught by a crucial department of society.

Imagine people putting on music in public and everyone joined in as though musicals were real life instead of only found in movies. Where people used their bodies to express themselves and in a gathering of dancing people they truly felt heard. Imagine sharing our excess with everyone that was in need, to not fear that you would not have enough because you were a part of a group of people who would notice your needs and help.

That we did not have to rely on other people, being self-sufficient. We cleaned out our own clothes, grew and prepared our own food, and collected our own water. That we didn’t have to wait on other people or rely on their actions to get something that was crucial for us to have. We were able to live with as much or as little human contact as we pleased.

Instead of a resting bitch face people were caught with a resting happy face. Where we looked at nature and the life that is around recognizing that it too has survived the length of time of the past and despite the odds it remains. Appreciating that we have survived through very difficult times of the past. To recognize the blessings of the human species, we are able to live anywhere on Earth, communicate with one another, and be conscious of our own existence.

That we are able to understand the great past, prior civilization, species, and interstellar events. To use this incredibly intelligent brain of ours to its full capacity, and make the most out of our inventions. Imagine a world where everyone was so pleased with their lives that they had no reason to take their own life.

We only get ourselves to greener pastures by daring to ask “what if”.
