Fire Flies

They scared and amazed us all at once

we were scazed.

If you knew your states you would notice that there are states between Louisiana and Florida. We hightailed our way through these states after catching wind of Spring Break. We had only heard stories and were bound to see it for our own eyes. In the end it was a let down, Covid seemed to greatly hamper the activities. In fact we were in Miami while the news reported that Spring Break Miami was out of control. In person this was not the case.

Florida Stops

Porter Lake

We camped here at Porter Lake National Forest, where we were greeted by kind travelers like ourselves. We all quickly became friends as we traded stories, food, and adventures for 4 days. Nearby was a hippy group that originated in the 70s called the Rainbow Family. We ventured into their camp and met some very unique people.

Miami

What is not more Florida if not for Miami, I had heard so much about it I was excited to see it for my own eyes. Miami Beach was a sight, with its amazing white sand and blue water. Once again no waves. The big city had its difficult aspects including traffic, crazy drivers, and endless lines. Oh and $40 to park!

Tallahassee

Tallahassee is where my best childhood friend moved to after the Camp Fire. I had not seen him since, which was a great reunion. Ethan and I were looking for a place where we could slow down and catch our breath. My friend offered just that, so we have a place that we will be calling home for a month or so.

Key West

Key West is the southern most point in all of North American. To get there you must drive over bridge after bridge that connect the islands all the way down to Key West. Everywhere I turned there was boats and beaches. It reignited my dream of sailing or working on boats. I discovered a number of opportunities to do just that all over the Caribbean.

Jacksonville

Jacksonville marked coast to coast, as I got to see the East coast for the first time. We camped on a beach to admire the whole other Ocean. I was quickly disappointed to find it greatly lacking waves. While camped here our car was almost swept into the sea with us and all our belongings still inside. I case you didn’t know the tide rises even while you are sleeping!

Tampa

We had enough of Florida cities so Tampa got the short end of the stick. We instead camped and got to see its nature side. Florida is a juggle filled with animals, bugs, and creatures that I did not know existed. We saw our first Fireflies ever! There are pictures below. We also found Ant Lions, an animal attempting to keep the endless ant mounds in check.
