Amused To Death
What do you live for?
What do you spend your precious time doing?
How are you entertained?
To what lengths do you go to be entertained?
Is This what you want?
Stop wasting your life with entertainment, we seek comfort and gratification that induces a stagnant lifestyle, society is flawed and we are ignorant to the root causes so we bitch about the symptoms, be comfortable with the discomfort you are more resilient that way.
I have so very many complaints about the society that I live in, if you are a reader of my writings you will be familiar. As I see it there are two directions for me to go, I either stay in this society and make an effort to change it or I leave this society in search of one with a better prioritization. You should know that I am a man of action so my complaints are going to lead to action. They are not just me winning about what I don’t like, they are well-founded problems that need to be addressed. I am still making up my mind if I am the one to take them on.
The foundation of this society is money, leading to capitalism, individualism, consumerism, unethical business, and immediate gratification. These are just some of the words to describe the crucial components of societies in modern times. A majority of our time is spent obtaining money through work, then spending the money on entertainment. As a student, I go to school and complete the work that I am responsible for then I have “free time” that I often spend on entertainment. Most prevalently was Netflix where I have watched so many TV shows and each had numerous seasons. I have given more time than I would like to consider to Netflix and I know that I am not alone. We all have our own ways of giving time and money to entertainment.
I have had enough! At this time, as I write this post, having just finished a tv series; it is as though I am free once again. I have had the hooks removed from my most recent Tv show which has so expertly sunk deep into my mind through each cliffhanger and scripted plot. There is nothing substantial that I get out of my tv show watching, there are minor social interactions where the shows are of some benefit. However, the interactions often play out like this:
“have you seen the office?”
“No”
“Oh man, it is such a great show you should watch it.”
This is even worse than watching it in the first place because now I am suggesting that someone waste their life watching a tv show by pressuring them into it.
We seek entertainment to amuse ourselves, such amusement has taken a lot of my precious life. If I do not make a change I will be amused to death! This is an artificial way of life, one where I am ignorant to the full experience of my own life because I am finding refuge in another world that has been carefully created to entertain me through the whole experience. I come back wanting more
I buy into this vicious system
